Highlights of the year.

The highlights of the year for me would be going to the mountain for our snow trip, going to lake karapiro for our camp which was really fun and having Mr Marquand as a teacher. The year has been great and I hope that high school will be as fun as this year.

Energy

In class we are learning about energy. Can we create energy? energy is not able to be created or destroyed it can only transform into different forms of energy. How does sound travel? it vibrates through the air. What is sound? it is vibrtions in the air that are forms of energy. What helped us to understand this more was videos, a liquid audio experiment which was putting a liquid on a plastic bag and put it on a speaker system and using the bass speaker would splash it in the air. Holding a slinky at both ends and pushing it back and forth. Using bull roarers and spinning them at speed it would vibrate the molecules around it and make sounds. By tapping a table and puting your ear on it would make it seem louder. Tying some wool in to a spoon and wrapping the wool around your fingers and putting it in your ear and banging the spoon on the table it would be louder. These were some of the things that helped us understand energy.

Athletics

On the 30 of october Te pahu and paterangi school had a athletics day. there were six different activities which were high jump, long jump, sprints, discus, shotput and hurdles. To be honest I was pretty nervous when I did high jump but I was just stupid and I knew I could do it and I came out second. Every year I do athletics I feel like I can't do it but I know I can.

Clearing and planting day

Hello there people of the internet on friday the 18 of october Room7 and a Pirongia school class went up to the pirongia lodge to do a clearing and planting day for their outdoor classroom. We were planting a few hundred plants for the surronding area that was bare and full of blackberry. It wasn't as simple as digging a hole and shoving it in, no. We had to locate an area, clear it out and then dig a hole and plant it. Hence the name clearing and planting.

Ag day

on wednesday the 16 of october the PTA had put up a agricultural day for the students of te pahu school to show off the animal that they have trained over the holidays at the event. it was a time for the students to show off their animal and what it did best in. the three events were call and follow, leading and rearing. the catergorys of animals were lambs goats and calfs. there were some people who didn't do an animal instead they did a home challenge/alternative challenge. this included a bird house, portable garden, 3D canvas, stump design and sandpit design. on the day if people weren't doing a animal they would be doing clay modelling, photography, cupcake decorating and t-shirt design.

speeches

We have recently done our speeches. For me it was my bestest speech that I have ever done but probably because I had personal experience with it. my speech was on bullying and in our school it's a problem that hasn't been solved. The topic was on what we had learnt at school and bullying related to our sesions on kia kaha. Doing this meant that I had more confidence in doing my speech and saythat bullying is not ok.

Snow trip

On the 6th of September 7 arrived at whakapapa to go for our ski trip. for most of us it was our first time snowboarding/skiing so we got lessons on how to board or ski and it helped a lot. Having going there for my first time was amazing, I was snow boarding and its a bit easier than it looks. Bestest life experience that I have ever had.

Enterprise

We have just had our market day and it was successful for most of the stalls and me and my friend's stall was a success. We were two items away from selling out and I thought we were only going to sell five which i am glad we didn't. Awesome day for everyone I think everyone wants to do it again.

kaliedoscope art

In room7 we have been doing kaliedoscope art using one picture rotating it so it will be the same except upside down so it looks like a mirror image, like the photos above. These pictures were hard because it was a matter seperating the flipped photos and the normal photos.

PROJECT ENERGISE

In room 7 we went to Paterangi school for a leadership excercise put up by team energise. This included working together as a team, listening to each others ideas and letting someone else take charge. These team challenges were hard and easy butyou couldn't win without working together.

Dry ice

In room 7 we have played with dry ice and had a look at how it reacts with metal and put in objects like hand gloves. Dry ice is at the temperature -37 degrees so when you touch for more than two seconds it will give you cold burn (trust me i know) . When dry ice is put together with metal it makes sound lke fingernails on a black board.

The robin boxes

In Room7 we were chosen to produce the robin boxes that transported the robins from Pureroa forest park to our local mountain Mt. Pirongia. In groups we cut out feeding doors, inserted small branches for them to stand on and a little door for them to be released from. There were 31 robins that came from Pureroa park to Mt. Pirongia for repopulation because many years ago the robin becam extinct on our mountain from rats and stoats. I enjoyed doing this because we were helping bring the robin back to Mt Pirongia.

Pencil portraits

In room 7 we have been learning how to sketch our faces to see what our drawing skills around the face the eyes and the mouth were. There were easy parts and hard parts. With me the hardest was getting the face and the eyes in the right place.
